The city of Rethymnon is 3th in size with a population of 30.000. It has an old Venetian fortress, picturesque shopping streets and a cosy harbour.

West of the city are long, sandy beaches with good possibilities to stay with your campervan.

In the south of the province is the already mentioned canyon of Imbros. More to the East of the South coast is the special Preveli beach where a river runs parallel to the sea.

Anogia, just north of the highest mountaintop of the island (Psiloritis), is an all Cretan mountain village with nice square's to drink a coffee. Only 15 miles away from Anogia is the Ideon-Andron plateau, an oasis of quietness in the middle of the Idi mountains!
