The province of Chania is all to the West of the island of Crete and is called after the city of Chania, once capital of Crete. This beautiful city has about 60.000 inhabitants. There are many ancient buildings and it has a very picturesque harbour.
In the Gulf of Kissamos, 20 miles West of the city of Chania, there are very beautiful beaches. You can take the boat to Ballos, in the North-west. All to the West is Falassana en South-west is Elafonisi. Beautiful sandy beaches and a very nice camper place!
In the South of the province is the famous canyon of Samaria. This gorge is 12 miles long and runs down to the Southern coastline. Many possibilities to walk this canyon. But a good alternative to the canyon of Samaria is the canyon of Imbros. Only 5 miles but sure as beautiful. A visit to one of the canyon is recommended.
