We started in 2008 as the first campervan rental company at Crete and we received many requests. But even more important, all our guests where very enthusiastic about their holiday at Crete. Some clients have experience driving a campervan, some do not. Unique, freedom, undiscovered spots and far away from mass tourism are most mentioned advantages versus a stay in a hotel or apartment.
How it started
In 2008 Gus Vergnes (Dutch) moved to Crete with his Greek wife Roula Athanasiou and their three daughters after a stay in the Netherlands for over 18 years. They decided for Crete as it is a large and beautiful island with a great climate and friendly, hospital people. They live in Heraklion, the biggest city on the island. It has a Dutch school, many shops and restaurants, hospitals, schools and a university. And it is vibrant and full of life all year round!
Gus pioneered with renting out just one camper and concluded this was a good business opportunity. In 2009 he met Nikos Pediaditakis and his Belgium wife Caroline. They started to work together and combine their skills.
About Us
Candia Campers started in 2008 with the name Motorhome Crete in cooperation with Mike Tours, a family-run car rental company in Heraklion, founded over 30 years ago by Michalis Pediaditakis. Since 2015 Candia Campers is a separate company officially named Athanasiou-Pediaditakis o.e.
With 5 modern campervans, Candia Campers has made a step in her ambition to grow to 6 RV’s. Small scaled to give our customers personal attention but large enough to offer different types of motorhomes.
We like to offer our customers a personal approach. We welcome you personally at the airport, give you an extensive instruction, take time to give you information about Crete and routes and are available 24-hours a day.

Making a tour around Crete in one of our motorhomes is an adventure. So you want to hit the road with liable material, well maintained and kept in good condition. We offer campervans with strong diesel engines that go up-hill with ease. And in case of a problem we’ll give fast assistance all over the island. All our cars are registered at the EOT, the Greek Ministry of Tourism. They have rules and conditions to follow.
The campers are well equipped with full kitchen utensils, pots and pans, inverter for 220v, outdoor table and chairs. The campervans are clean inside and outside and we’ll have your beds ready for the night. Welcome to Crete!
